Skaarhoj are a Danish company that manufacture a range of universal controllers for all kinds of broadcast equipment. Basically, anything that can be controlled over a network can be controlled with a Skaarhoj controller. All kinds of cameras including regular broadcast cameras, PTZ, 360 degree and NDI cameras, vision switchers, routers, back end signal processors, streaming encoders, recorders. They even have device cores to run HTTP commands and the Keybridge device core can control any computer, running any software.
This universality means a single Skaarhoj device can control all devices in a system, and with careful programming we can simplify the operation of any system. We often supply Skaarhoj controllers in small streaming systems with PTZ cameras, to combine the camera control, vision switching, audio and streaming into one controller. This means simplified operation for non-technical operators.
In our small OB trailer, we use a single Skaarhoj camera remote panel to control a mixture of Sony broadcast and BirdDog NDI cameras for basic CCU setup and camera positioning. Using another type of Skaarhoj controller, we can control our video router, main (Tricaster) and backup (ATEM) switcher all from the same controller, as well as another way of recalling PTZ camera presets.
